Degree Requirements
The following course of study meets the requirements for the Illinois Professional Educator License with the following endorsements:
- Early Childhood Education (birth – 2nd grade)
- English as a Second Language (Pre-Kindergarten – 12th grade)
- Bilingual endorsement (Pre-Kindergarten – 2nd grade) may be added (must pass ISBE language proficiency exam and complete ENLE 32700 Introduction to Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Education).
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) grants professional educator licenses in the State of Illinois. All teacher candidates who successfully complete an approved teacher education program at Lewis University, pass appropriate licensure exams, and meet current ISBE requirements will be recommended for licensure. This does not lead to licensure in other states. Teacher candidates are responsible for checking the requirements of the state in question.
