The Lewis University Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM), with its STEM designation, PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC) accreditation, and Prior Learning Assessment, is a powerful combination for career acceleration. It blends rigorous project management methodologies with global industry recognition, heavily benefiting both domestic and international professionals.
Why This Combination Matters
STEM Designation:
Allows international students on F-1 visas to apply for a 36-month OPT (Optional Practical Training) extension after graduation, providing up to 3 years of US work experience. It also signifies that the curriculum is heavily grounded in technology, analytics, and behavior science.
GAC Accreditation:
Granted by the Project Management Institute (PMI), this is the highest standard in project management education globally. Graduates from GAC-accredited programs receive a 12-month reduction on the required project management experience for any PMI certification (e.g., PMP®).
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA):
If a student has previously earned a PMP, they may receive course credit for the following courses:
- PROJ 51000 Foundations of Project Management
- PROJ 53000 Project Leadership in Teams
If a student has previously earned a PMI-ACP, they may receive course credit for the following course:
- PROJ 56000 Agile Project Management
If a student has BOTH the PMP and the PMI-ACP, the student may request an exception (to be approved by the program director and dean) to receive course credit for all three courses:
- PROJ 51000 Foundations of Project Management
- PROJ 53000 Project Leadership in Teams
- PROJ 56000 Agile Project Management
NOTE: The course credits only apply to students who are registered for the MS Project Management program.
Objectives
Graduates of the Master of Science in Project Management program are expected to:
- Organize project resources effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrate an integrated understanding of projects, programs, and portfolio management disciplines.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams and develop realistic strategies.
- Display a practical exhibition and explanation regarding analytical, communicative, and technical skills related to Project Management Triple constraint.
- Leverage sociocultural factors that promote effective management of people, procedures, or processes.
- Apply accountability and civil judgment regarding solutions and proposals relevant to organizations and locations.
- Manage ethical issues that affect the project, organization, and stakeholders.
- Evaluate decisions and actions that provide adverse risk, continuous growth, and improvement.
Students must complete 30 graduate credits in the program to complete the Master of Science in Project Management degree. Each student is required to complete 10 courses. Only 6 hours of previous applicable graduate coursework (grade of B or higher) can be transferred into the program. A total of 24 hours must be taken at Lewis University. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for graduation.
